Our Latest Science Unit: The Life cycle of a Painted Lady Butterfly

Super excited to check out our new classroom visitors.

Ten caterpillars arrived to live in our classroom for a while.

Some of our hungry caterpillars.  Snacking on food!

Writing in their Journals about the new classroom visitors!

Examining them carefully to draw them in his journal!

Taking some our first butterflies to mature

out to the garden to release them so they help pollinate our garden!

Special thanks to our Hannah's mom our volunteer!

Working in Math with pattern blocks to build butterflies

and talking about the symmetry of butterflies!

Pokey, our last Caterpillar to make a Chrysalis is of course our last to hatch.  He hatched friday morning and we released him just before class dismissed at the end of the day!  We were all a little sad to see our last visitor go!  We read 'The Butterfly House' by Eve Bunting to ease our sorrows.
